What is the Komati Care Centre?

The Komati Care Centre is a registered non-profit organization that was established in 2003 to feed vulnerable children in the township of Orlando just outside Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Today almost 50 vulnerable children are being provided two meals a day with food and money donated by local churches, guest houses, businesses and private individuals.

With generous funding, we have been able to complete the building with new kitchen and bathroom facilities. We have established a nursery school with two full-time teachers employed from January this year and have appointed a spiritual leader Ps Dumisani Shabangu.

The centre is managed and directed by a group of people who constitute the Care Centre Committee.

Activity
Some fifty orphaned and vulnerable children are being fed. We need them to be looked after during the day by trained and qualified people.
The existing structures needed upgrading to enable us to extend the work of the Care Centre to include adults, making the centre a place of refuge, hope and love.
We have completed the building of the hall to be used as a children's day care centre, to hold church services and teach skills training.

Orlando

Orlando is an RDP housing development with some 450 houses built by the Government. More recently, there has been an influx of itinerant and homeless people living in hundreds of squatter shacks. The Township is a place with ever increasing levels of poverty, sickness (HIV/Aids related), unemployment, crime and general hopelessness.
