The public meeting 29 April 2009, chaired by the honorable Mayor Mr. John Mavuso, had the budget of Komatipoort as subject. In the discussion inbetween Municipality and the local Komatipoort, the following has been resolved:

The primary need is electricity provision and consistency.  In this regards it has been decided that the long term planning is important and that municipality should embrace the possibility that Komatipoort may more than double, double in the near five years.

Although a cemetery for Orlando has been pre-tabled as a priority, it has been agreed that the un-numbered road is the second priority, the road to be numbered and tarred.

The third priority would be the provision of a robot on the N4, the formal entrance of the town

The combined 4th and 5th priority, in this discussion, was a proper consultation process with the business community and the hawkers and the taxi association as to provide appropriate site/s for the informal trade, and to also avail proper taxi nodes for the commuters. Money is to be budgeted and spent here as to ensure that not only a symptomatic relieve is brought, but a significant product would emanate from this planning.  Logically the hospitality in Komatipoort performs extremely well, and Komatipoort could be regarded as the keyhole of Nkomazi. Establishing a proper center in Komatipoort, accommodating informal trade and disclosing all of the tourism assets of Nkomazi, makes sense.  The regulation of the informal trade and the tax industry makes sense only after provision has been made for the needs. This is a high priority and should be embraced and should enjoy priority.

The last priority in terms of the IDP would be sanitation.

It has been confirmed by the mayor that the relocation of the refuse site from Komatipoort to Steenbok is approved and will be done.

Communication remains a challenge, not only for Komatipoort, but through out Nkomazi. Neccta reiterated www.komatipoort.com has been designed and is maintained by Neccta for these purposes and all are invited to put this means to good use. They would always attempt to spread word and ensure maximized participation.
