Corridor Gazette is vital in the proper communication of activities and news in Nkomazi. In an attempt to expand this communication, an initiative has been taken by the newspaper, in conjunction with Fine & Country Properties, to give life to the local town portals. By supplying the portals with the latest news and events weekly and keeping it up to date, Fine & Country Realty and Corridor Gazette believe that people will be kept abreast of the latest news of this area, and will also be able to plan their events properly. The town portals: Komatipoort.co.za, Malalane.co.za and Mppoa.co.za (Marloth Park) are initiatives that originated from software architect Guss Davie and Jan Engelbrecht, who presented this to the chambers of businesses of the respective towns to put it to good use in the interest of these communities.

Logically the intention was and remains that town portals should properly serve the interests of the whole community, and should be a live and dynamic instrument. It has been discovered that in the private sector, it is difficult to maintain proper management of the town portals if it is not directly and actively fed with news and event information by somebody on behalf of the community. This is always the challenge, not only in Nkomazi. The initiative by the newspaper and Fine & Country to publish continuously some of the news that had already appeared in Corridor Gazette of the past week on these town portals, will serve to keep third parties (those outside this area who roam the internet and search for information and events in this area, and definitely "hit" these town portals) abreast with the latest news in this area.

This immediately renders an up-to-date, dynamic town portal, properly fed with relevant news published by responsible journalists. It is believed this will add value to the local area in that these town portals will, as a consequence of this, become important assets of the local community. Up to now, registration on the town portal for business and tourism was free. The intention is to keep it like that. Interested parties could register their businesses online by following the appropriate links on the site. Material published on this site could not be left unsupervised, to prevent jokers and irresponsible people from publishing unacceptable material. It could, however, not be omitted that good news and noticeable events were not published in the past, but every effort will be done to rectify this in future. Nkomazi business owners in these towns are invited to visit the portals and see to it that their businesses are also duly captured in the list, similarly tourist product owners. If they are not successful in doing it themselves, by following the hyperlink and the links to arrive there, they could direct enquiries to the contact details on the different town portals. Event liaison demands proper involvement: It is impossible for everyone to know what all other businesses and forums do, or arrange in any calendar year, unless the newspaper, Corridor Gazette, or these town portals will facilitate and enable a proper publication. Here one thinks of fund-raising events, like golf days and concert dates of public performers. It speaks for itself that to manage an events diary is a full-time job, and it won’t be possible if it is not properly fed by participants themselves on the websites and/or during the annual liaison committee meetings lead by the chambers of commerce. In addition, Lowveld Media recently launched its new website where anyone can get access to breaking news and more cyberspace at www.looklocal.co.za by clicking on "Lowveld". Lowveld Media has joined the social media revolution.

Looklocal Lowveld is an interactive site focused on community and local news, events, entertainment, crime, school news, sport and motoring, and municipal issues in the region. News from all our publications will be available online and the visually inclined will be glad to hear that the gallery section boasts additional photos that were not published in our print editions, or even before they are printed. Additional sports results are also available on Looklocal. Corridor Gazette will publish the consequential hit ratio in visits to the sites, as a consequence of this initiative in time. The paper is confident this initiative will contribute to higher and better interest in the local area. Mindmatters Fine & Country is properly geared for the assistance to ensure the news feed on a weekly basis, with stories from Corridor Gazette.

"This news item is brought to you by Fine and Country, Lowveld – South of Kruger, with the compliments of Corridor Gazette."
